I’ve been writing about this and talking about it on the Show. Trump has dropped mandatory E-verify from the Amnesty negotiations with Congressional leaders pushing DACA/DREAM Act Amnesty.
Of course, E-verify by itself isn’t enough to stop illegal aliens from taking American jobs. There’s a federal law that was probably written by the Chamber of Horrors that stipulates that illegal aliens working for a paycheck CANNOT be checked by their employers for their immigration status. Since about 10 million illegals are working for a paycheck, that’s de facto Amnesty already for those illegals. Now, ICE can certainly check their status so it’s not a total loss of enforcement.
E-verify can ONLY be used by employers on prospective and new employees.
A national mandatory E-verify law would require all U.S. employers to use E-verify before hiring workers whether they suspected those workers to be illegal aliens or not.
Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) has just such a bill in the House–HR 3711–but as written gives many employers 2-3 YEARS to comply!
The Chamber is very powerful and is fighting mandatory E-verify like mad. E-verify is only mandatory for ALL employers in one or two states–Arizona (known as LAWA) and South Carolina.
