Another excellent piece by Jon Milner at The Mercury News.
My gut feeling tells me he’s going to the NFL but for a reason not mentioned by Milner: He’s out of the running for the Heisman this year (with competition this year from quarterbacks who get most of the glory) and his chances of winning it next year with Stanford’s horrible offensive line not improving much over this year’s line are slim. If Stanford had the line they had last year, I think he’d return for his senior year.
On the other hand, completing college is I’m sure of major importance to McCaffrey as it was for his father. I have no idea what his parents think he should do. His father did sustain some major injuries and had to retire because of them.
Whatever his decision, one thing is certain. Stanford will probably never see another all-purpose running back like Christian McCaffrey again and for that, I am sad.
